About the West Virginia School Health Technical Assistance Center

The West Virginia School Health Technical Assistance Center is based at the Center for Rural Health, Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, Marshall University. Since 1994, the Center has provided technical assistance to and evaluation of school based health centers. Currently, the Center provides technical assistance to support community and school partnerships for school based health services in areas of primary health care, mental health and dental health.

Technical assistance includes:

  • Program evaluation and reporting
  • Technical support and facilitation of community-school planning
  • Training for community health providers and schools
  • Promotion of quality improvement and use of evidence – based programs and practices
  • Data management systems

The Center is funded by:

  • The West Virginia Bureau for Behavioral Health and Health Facilities
  • The Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation
  • The Appalachian Regional Commission
